The conditions for a good life are changing. Our understanding of what a Good Life is, also need to change. Let´s work on the NewGoodLife.
Much of the stability we have experienced in recent decades is not to be taken for granted. A stable climate, an abundance of energy and resources, financial markets that have financed growth, technology that has enabled optimizations, a stable market economy narrative, and relative global peace have enabled a growing world population and a better life for many.
Today, we can see that this growth in population and wealth has come at massive costs: The global North has benefited much more than the South, and nature is showing us that it has tipping points and limits. Global shadows are looming – see there.
At least in the West, we have inhaled the "religion of consumption": Our understanding of a good life is automatically linked to wealth: housing, leisure, food, clothing. Even people who do not describe themselves as consumption-oriented experience restrictions in these areas as a reduction in quality of life.
The subjective prosperity for many people in the West is no longer rising as it used to, and the narratives about the future are pessimistic. Populism, particularly on the right but also on the left, is gaining traction. One could describe it as a "regression" of people and societies: When prospects become more negative, fear, powerlessness, and selfishness increase.
The NewGoodLife seeks to offer a counter-narrative: Even if the conditions should change, what truly makes life good cannot be bought with money: relationships, experiences, community, meaningful activity. The elements provide us with a map that helps us recognize the gifts for a good life.
How can we transform our communities and organizations so that they become places and sources of the NewGoodLife? And isn't contributing to a NewGoodLife for oneself and others the true meaningful task?
We have now differentiated the NGL Ecosystem - see there.
The attempt is to make it easier for people depending on their context to connect, benefit and contribute.
NGL is an open project.
- Creative Commons, share alike: Whatever you find useful, pls use it, make money with it if possible and share it under the same conditions if you adapt it, and share it with us, too, please, so we can learn as well.
- Self-Organization is baked into the fabric of NGL. Please join, take part, contribute.
The NGL Logo:
1) A flower – life!
2) A withered flower – something is coming to an end
3) The flower has new seeds – and we don't yet know what will grow from them
4) The dandelion: A "weed," but also a salad, at the right time, and beautiful as both a flower and a seed head
5) The seed head – an element of childlike joy!
6) An exponential curve that breaks off, and it's still unclear in which direction it will continue
